Hawk C-Series Anamorphic. Developed in the 1980s, this is Hawk's first set of Anamorphic lenses. Small and rugged, they produce a very nice anamorphic image. The one drawback of the lenses is lack of internal focus. However many times Cinematographers gladly give up the convenience in order to get the benefit of their unique look.

Hawk V-Lite 16 2x is the best option right now. I have heard that Panavision has some 1.5x for S16, although it is just rumor. With a 2.66:1 image, you wouldn't be cropping that much. If you were to use the Hawk lenses, with todays stocks, it would look quite good and you could if you want to, have print dailies or even a photochemical finish.
It is a set of 6 lightweight lenses (28mm, 35mm, 45mm, 55mm, 80mm all T2.2 and a 110mm T3) that are incredibly small for anamorphic lenses. They are about the size of a Cooke S4 lens and weigh around 2 kilos, which makes them ideal for handheld and steadicam use.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to try the V-lites right now as they are away until just a couple of days before we start. I found the C-series to have a classic anamorphic look --- pretty low contrast, flary but not extremely, a bit soft until around T5,6.
